Overview:
As SBTI celebrates 10 years, Steve shares his observations on Six Sigma and where it has been and what has changed. He first reflects on TQM vs. Six Sigma and how Six Sigma puts value on activities to quantify efforts to the bottom line.
Next, he speaks on the role of training and how it took a different turn for many companies. Never before had companies made the type of investment they do today to train a black belt or master black belt. In today’s Six Sigma training, soft skills are also very important. Can non-linear regression and Shakespeare co-exist?
After that, Steve speaks on the Old Six Sigma versus the new Six Sigma. The old Six Sigma was based on tracking defects for quick prioritization. In most cases today that has not been the case. The new Six Sigma has integrated Lean methodologies. The use of Lean and Six Sigma tools has helped companies pick those priorities.
Next, Steve touches on how innovation is a challenge for companies. The use of Six Sigma today can help companies fully understand the box so when it comes time to ‘think outside the box’, the solutions become apparent.
Finally, the idea of entitlement is something many companies have never considered. The thought of how good they could possibly be can be a strong motivating factor for the employees and the company.
